What is Web 2.0?!
You can find a lot of useful information about Web 2.0 technology by conducting a simple Google search; however, here is my simple teacher-relevant definition. Web 2.0 technologies are online tools that are usually free (or offered at a reduced-rate for educators) and allow users to interact to create and/or share content. The result of using Web 2.0 technology effectively in the classroom is that all students are actively engaged in rigorous learning.
Here is a blog (web-log) that offers information about what tools exist that can be used in educational settings, and how to use them. The author of the blog is a technology teacher, and offers many of the same guidelines that I myself would recommend, especially to those new to the world of Web 2.0.
How to Integrate Web 2.0 Tools into the Classroom: This page offers introductory information about what Web 2.0 is, and general ideas about how it can be used to enhance classroom teaching.
Top 13 Web 2.0 Tools for Classrooms: This page gives more specific information about the tools that educators can use, as well as user guidelines for teachers.
Using Web 2.0 is fun and easy! Most Web 2.0 tools are accompanied by step-by-step tutorials to help new users learn how to use the technology, and many school districts offer Web 2.0 courses to their employees. Try using the technology you are interested in as a presentation tool until you are comfortable enough to let the students use it themselves!
